                                                     JOB DESCRIPTION




Title:                                       Bus Monitor                                                                  

Department:                           Transportation

Immediate Supervisor:           Transportation Director


Job Goal:  To assist in providing safe transportation so that children/students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the District’s School program.





  1.    Assist the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.


  1.    Assist young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus.


  1.    Assure that students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.


  1.     Maintain student discipline.        


  1.   Maintain records as assigned.


  1.   Drive school buses as a substitute when needed and as such, follow job                      description of bus driver when used.


  1.  Perform simple data recording/record keeping operations requiring logging, filing or posting single entry items either manually or by computer.


  1.  Use basic addition and subtraction in performance of job.


  1.   Read and interpret routine written or printed materials such as basic blueprints, chart, diagrams, maps or instruction material.


  1. Establish and/or maintain an existing filing system.


  1. Follow generally standardized operating policies and procedures.


  1. Other duties may be assigned.    



Length of Contract:       One hundred seventy-seven (177) contract days. 

Salary commensurate with experience on the negotiated agreement of the Support

Employees of Edmond (SEE).


Evaluation:  Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Transportation Director in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policies, state law, and the negotiated agreement with the Support Employees of Edmond (SEE).



Students on the bus.

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

Acceptable Annual Motor Vehicle Record.



Current Bus Driver’s Certificate.

Class B CDL w/Passenger and Air Brake Endorsement.



Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.



Ability to plan budgets and use the mathematical skills required to do so.  Maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects under the supervision of the position.



Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.



Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions.  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.  Ability to organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.


Must have skills to drive a school bus.  Must have basic communication skills to understand and respond to job communication skills to understand and respond to job instructions, to exchange information, to give/receive simple instructions, to fill out forms, and to respond to inquiries.
